When it Rains...

We have all heard the saying, 'when it rains, it pours'. Around the Last Chance Corral, we are finding that the saying 'things come in threes' is also true. Since having to put my horse down (Echo), we have discovered that the Gypsy/Fresian gelding that we just aquired has some serious neurologic issues. He went into Pete's with the intention of being put down. Pete agreed that he was definitely neurologic, but gave us some new meds to try on him. If they don't work, Quinn will be making a final trip to the vet as well. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers, we love this little guy and he deserves the best.

Well, Echo and Quinn make two, and since things come in threes, there had to be one more. This one hit us the hardest by far. Gerda, the resident black German Shepherd, crossed rainbow bridge today at the age of 14. She served Last Chance every day, and was always ready for a hard day's work. Gerda dedicated her life to taking care of the farm, and it will never be the same without her. Her spirit lives on, and she will be greatly missed.

Hopefully that's all the bad news that I will have to report for a loooong time- like I said, though, when it rains, it pours. It has obviously been pouring here recently, so the best that we can do is look up to the sky and look forward to the sunny days ahead. Send a good thought our way, we surely need it.

Happy Trails, the horses are calling,
~Rachel (Stretch)

We have a brown gelding, I'm guessing he's an appendix bred QH, who was so skinny (wrong food, too much crowding in a poor arrangement, thanks to the most recent owner's ignorance about horses) that when the horse/Gent stood crosswise to the wind, he would stagger. We took him home and fattened him up. When the winter coat came off, we found out he'd had a horrible life. The horse has scars everywhere a saddle won't sit -- including on his tongue! We're looking for a good home for him. He's afraid, but gentle and well-trained (broke to death, sadly, as the saying goes) to jump. He was trained for a young girl to ride, we were told. He's approximately 10 years old, has had his canines knocked out (old practice, useless and abusive).

Now we also have 3 little minis to worry over, LOL, and our elderly half-Ap gelding (we raised him) that Gent is bonded with.

Keep up the good work. Oh, and say hello please to Mike the Environmental Geologist. ;)

So sorry for your losses. Hope the 3 is done with. A dog is always glad to see you. It is very hard to lose a trusted companion. My prayers are with you.

Victoria- My heartfelt thoughts are with all of you. We (the folks at my office) have followed Gerda over the years through pictures on your website. She never failed to amaze us with her stoic supervision of the healthy babies and tender loving attentiveness to the sick. Friend, confidant and nursemaid Gerda was a very good girl. She will be missed.
Love and prayers to all -Kathy
